Advisor to Omani Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs Speaks in History Department of Alzahra University

In response to an invitation from Iranian Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Dr. Mohammad-Bin-Saeed Al-Moammari from Sultan Qaboos University, who is specialist in the field of Ibāḍī school of Islam in Al-Milal wa al-Nihal, and the advisor to Omani Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs, participated in the launching ceremony of Tehran International Book Fair 2015, and visited Alzahra University in May 5th, along with the cultural advisor to Islamic Republic of Iran in Oman.
In a meeting with faculty members and PhD candidates of History department, Dr. Al-Moammari delivered a speech about geopolitical situation of Oman, long history of Iran-Oman relations, religious and political ideas of Ibāḍī sect, its’ similarities and differences with other branches. Subsequently, Al-Moammari responded to some questions, posed by audiences, about Islamic sects including Ibāḍī branch, situation of Shias, researches and studies about Shia in Oman. He referred to the great depth of knowledge of Omani scholars about Shiite and added: “Our research focus, in the field of comparative Fiqh, is on Shia. Moreover, our library archives include most of the scripts by Shia clerics.” He also answered a question about woman education in Oman: “In our country, women study in the same universities as men; however, the classes in Howza are held separately for women and men.”

The members of history department of Alzahra University expressed their interest in expanding relations with Sultan Qaboos University and showed the department tendency to increase its history resources books related to Ibāḍī sect. Dr. al-Moammari also invited history faculty members to visit Sultan Qaboos University and promised to provide the history department with historical and ideological resource books related to Ibāḍī sect. At the end of this meeting, cultural advisor to Iran in Oman also promised to provide financial and academic support for those students who conduct researches about Iran-Oman relations.
