Alzahra University Holds the fifth Consultative Conference of Directors and Deputies of International Academic Collaborations

The fifth consultative conference of directors and deputies of international affairs in Iranian universities, higher education centers, and acclaimed Science and Technology Parks was held in Alzahra University on June 10th, 2015. Dr. Salar Amoli, deputy Minister of Science, Technology, and Research and Director of Academic and International Collaborations Center in the aforementioned ministry, and other deputies from the ministry also participated in this event.

At the outset of the conference, Dr. Marandi, director of International Academic Collaborations in Alzahra University welcomed the guests and subsequently the University Chancellor, Dr. Khazali, addressed the audiences while emphasizing on the role of Muslim women scholars in international academic collaborations. In part of her speech, Khazali noted that the internationalization in today’s world is a necessity and stressed need for relying on the country’s possessions and possibilities to proceed. “Despite what that has been trying to be presented nowadays by deviate streams, Islam emphasizes on the thoughtful participation of women in society while retaining modesty and dignity of a Muslim women,” she said.

Moreover, Dr. Salar Amoli, delivering the second speech of this conference, mentioned to the internationalization of the Iranian universities and higher education centers as one of the most crucial and serious policies of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Research (MSTR) and underlined the qualitative development of universities as one the results of these policies. “Going global is a kind of competition that needs confidence and preparation, and it leads to the expansion of national security in all directions,” he added and continued: “In the post-sanction period, we should pass the outer layers of international collaborations such as signing memoranda and reach to the inner layers like admitting students and granting sabbaticals.” According to Dr. Amoli, the Iranian universities soon will be notified of the admission and scholarship regulations for non-Iranian students.

“Iranian universities are required to be actively involved in providing joint programs and should expand the branches outside of the country,” Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, and Research also noted that the measures to increase the admission of non-Iranian student are high on the agenda for the internationalization of the country’s universities.

The morning session of the conference continued with a speech delivered by Mr. Ghasemi, Senior Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, and Research about the gears to become global universities. Ghasemi highlighted the export of academic products as the main gears to the internationalization and referred to the successful measures taken by some of the Science and Technology Parks in exporting the technological achievements of Science-based companies to abroad. Subsequently, the presidents of Science and Technology Parks in Kermanshah, Gilan, and North Khorasan provinces were admired and received appreciation letters for their honorable measures.

The 5th consultative conference of directors and deputies of international affairs in Alzahra University continued with three specialized meetings for participants. The expert meetings of “Establishment of Evaluation System for International Academic Actions,” “International Cultural-Scientific Actions; the Entry to Global System,” and “Export of Science-based products in the Era of Commercialized Science” were the programs of the afternoon session and university officials including Mr. Hashemi, Sociocultural Deputy of MSTR; Hujjat al-Islam Abolghasemi, Deputy of International Affairs in Islamic Cultural and Relations Organization (ICRO); Mr. Ebrahimabadi, the head of Institute of Social and Cultural Studies; Mr. Khayyatiyan, Deputy of Policy and Planning Office in Ministry of Science, Technology, and Research; Mr. Khaleghiyan, Director of Relations and International Affairs in Pardis Technology Park; and Mr. Amini, Deputy Director of Technology in Science and Technology Park in the Razavi Khorasan province. The conference concluded at 6pm and the participants received certificates of attendance.
