Research Landscape in Germany- DAAD Conference – Alzahra University – May 24th 2017

Following Alzahra University’s Chancellor; Dr. Mahnaz Mollanazari’s journey to Germany along with some of the Chancellors of Tehran Universities, International Academic Collaborations Affairs of Alzahra University held a one-day conference entitled “Research Landscape in Germany- DAAD” in order to introduce the facilities and research opportunities in Germany. In this conference Dr. Mollanazari and the vice-Chancellors, directors of International Academic Collaborations of other universities and post-graduate students participated.

Dr. Hanachi; the director of International Academic Collaborations welcomed the guests and hoped to increase these types of partnerships in order to help the university grow in international levels.

Dr. Ferns Stoeckel; the Director of the DAAD Information Centre in Iran, introduced the activities and facilities done by DAAD in order to support Researchers and post-graduate students all over the world such as: granting sabbaticals (3 and 6 months), conducting research programs in German Research Centers, and PhD and Post-Doc programs in other universities.

Representative and Responsible for the office of German Academic Exchange Institute in Iran, Dr. Stoeckel had studied Political Philosophy and International Relations at University of Berlin and Hamburg. German Academic Exchange Institute was opened up in 1957 With the aim of internationalizing the German higher education environment in Tehran.

He mentioned the outline of Collaboration Strategies between two countries and Iran Representation office in Bonn which Dr. Mollanazari visited with the aim of International Scientific Collaboration with Germany. Scientific Collaboration with the aim of Solving global problems and Utilizing Diplomacy and science would be used for Diplomatic Decision Making and Development of Scientific Cooperation is one of these strategies.

He mentioned that there are about one thousand research institutes in Germany and about 604,000 people are employed in research and development at German companies. They have Bilingual and Multilingual research collaborations with 151 countries in Science, Innovation and Economics. Two thirds of research are in Private sector and Nongovernmental companies in Germany spend a lot on research and development.
